Dare To Achieve

Dare to Achieve tackles the barriers that limit educational attainment and life outcomes for children and young people. The programme offers out-of-school educational support combined with recreational activities to create a safe, engaging space that nurtures learning, builds confidence, and supports academic progress. Designed to better meet the needs of children and young people across different protected characteristics, the programme promotes inclusion and equal access to support. We also provide tailored activities for young people not in education, employment, or training (NEET), combining educational and employment-focused sessions with practical financial literacy. This helps address challenges such as financial hardship, skill gaps, and lack of access to guidance empowering young people to take confident steps toward a brighter future.

Resilient for Life

Resilient for Life is a targeted programme designed specifically for children in care (looked-after children) and care leavers. The project aims to build resilience and strengthen mental well-being by providing a safe, supportive environment where young people can develop the tools they need to cope with life’s challenges. Through age-appropriate, creative, and engaging workshops, participants gain practical life skills, including emotional regulation, financial literacy, and social independence essential for living confidently and independently. Each session is designed to be fun, accessible, and empowering, supporting young people to grow in confidence and capability.
The project was first funded by The National Lottery Community Fund in 2023.

International

Our international programmes aim to improve the quality of life and opportunities for disadvantaged children, young people, and families in developing countries. We focus on addressing urgent needs such as hunger, economic vulnerability, and emotional well-being through practical support and community-based interventions. Further details of our international work can be found at lbrooks.org.

Foodshed

We believe no one should suffer or die from hunger especially pregnant women, nursing mothers, children under 5, and school-aged children.

Foodshed addresses food poverty in deprived communities by sourcing, growing, packaging, and distributing food through a network of service agencies and programmes. Beyond food relief, Foodshed promotes long-term food security and well-being through educational materials and practical training.

Key activities include:

  1. Food Bag Distribution
  2. Food Vouchers for pregnant women, widows with school-aged children, and families with children under 5
  3. Nutrition Education on healthy diets and low-cost farming
  4. Community Training in affordable, sustainable nutrition

Key milestones:

  1. Over 250,000 individuals served each year for more than 7 consecutive years, reaching vulnerable groups across multiple regions.
  2. Consistent delivery of food bags and vouchers to pregnant women, widows with school-aged children, and families with children under 5.
  3. Expanded partnerships with local agencies and service providers to strengthen distribution networks and reach harder-to-access communities.
  4. Integrated nutrition education and affordable farming training into all programme areas, promoting long-term food security alongside emergency support.
  5. Developed multilingual educational materials on healthy eating and balanced diets to ensure accessibility across diverse populations.

  4. Formal and on-the-job skills training
  5. Customer feedback-based learning

  2. Expanded December 2019: Support for young widows (under 35) with children
  3. The programme ran successfully for five years and is being scaled to new locations.

Make a Child’s Birthday

In many poverty-stricken communities, children grow up without celebration or joy.

Make a Child’s Birthday brings smiles and hope to deprived children by giving them the opportunity to celebrate their special day.

Each birthday celebration includes:

  1. A traditional meal and healthy refreshments
  2. Birthday cake and educational party packs
  3. Music, games, dancing, painting, and drawing

Events are hosted at partner locations, community hubs, or suitable spaces close to the children’s homes. This initiative promotes not only emotional well-being but also social interaction and a sense of belonging which are essential for a happy, healthy childhood.
