Life Brooks International is delighted to announce new funding for Dare to Achieve: Walls that Speak, an innovative creative youth initiative designed to empower young people with disabilities in Barking and Dagenham funded by the Arts Council England – National Lottery Project Grant.
This 13-month programme will provide an inclusive and supportive space for young participants to explore identity, confidence, and belonging through collaborative visual arts. Working alongside professional artists, participants will co-create a large-scale public mural that reflects their lived experiences, perspectives, and aspirations.
At the heart of this initiative is a commitment to placing young people at the centre of the creative process. Through structured workshops and collaborative activities, participants will develop artistic skills while strengthening confidence, teamwork, and self-expression. The project also creates meaningful opportunities for engagement with the wider community, ensuring that young voices are not only heard but visibly represented in public space.
The programme will culminate in a public exhibition and the unveiling of the mural at The Vibe youth centre. This event will bring together families, community members, local partners, and civic leaders to celebrate the creativity and achievements of the young people involved.
Delivered in partnership with local organisations, including Ab-phab, and supported by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the Arts and Cultural partnerships in Barking and Dagenham, this initiative contributes to expanding inclusive cultural opportunities across the borough.
This funding marks an important step forward in our mission to empower young people, strengthen community connections, and support meaningful participation in cultural life. Through Dare to Achieve: Walls that Speak, we continue to invest in the voices, talents, and futures of young people in our communities.
